Since the launch of the Book Love Foundation in 2012, a small group of dedicated and determined board members has come together to shape a vision for providing access to books to all students across North America.

Penny Kittle

PENNY KITTLE

President

Penny Kittle is dedicated to helping students and teachers develop a passion for reading and writing. She teaches freshman composition at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire and was a teacher and literacy coach in public schools for 34 years. Penny is the author of Book Love and Write Beside Them, which won the James N. Britton Award from NCTE.

Elaine Millen

ELAINE MILLEN

Vice President

With a heart of a teacher, Elaine has over 40 years of experience as a Teacher, Director of Special Education, Principal, Curriculum Director, and Assistant Superintendent of Schools. Early on in her career, she became intrigued with metacognition and science of motivation, and continues to be her passion and research.

Julia Torres

JULIA E. TORRES

Grant Winner Support

Julia E. Torres is a veteran language arts teacher and librarian in Denver Public schools. As a teacher/activist committed to education as a practice of freedom, her practice is grounded in the works of empowering students to use Language Arts to fuel resistance and positive social transformation.

NAWAL QAROONI

Community Partnership

Nawal is an award-winning journalist and literacy instructor with experience in New York City and Chicago schools.  Forever passionate about growing readers, writers and thinkers, Nawal worked as a classroom teacher, curriculum developer and literacy coach before launching NQC Literacy in 2014.  She has since supported a holistic approach to literacy in dozens of schools, where she involves families in dynamic partnerships with teachers and leaders to support all students.

Clare Landrigan

CLARE LANDRIGAN

Summer Book Club

Clare Landrigan is a staff developer who is still a teacher at heart. She began her career twenty-eight years ago teaching in a integrated first and second-grade classroom at the Eiliot Pearson Children's School in Medford, MA. Clare is the co-author of It's All About the Books and Assessment in Perspective.

CHELSEA PAPINEAU

Application Management, Podcast Producer

Chelsea has a penchant for storytelling and loves children, so becoming part of the Book Love Foundation board seemed like a natural fit. She is a digital content specialist for CTV News Northern Ontario in Canada as well as a youth drama teacher for more than 17 years.

Media

Yukari is 30 year veteran of technology marketing in the Silicon Valley. She started her career in engineering and transitioned into marketing, working with several start-ups on market outreach and communications.

Finance

Gloria is an accountant with nearly 30 years of experience. She has worked in both private and public accounting with an emphasis in nonprofits. 

Paul Chant

PAUL CHANT

Legal

Paul Chant is a partner at Cooper Cargill Chant, northern New Hampshire's largest law firm. Paul's practice is civil litigation trial work, with a focus on Personal Injury and Workers Compensation.
